Subject: Three into one
Specific aromas have the power to transport me back to an earlier, more youthful time: the earthy redolence of decaying leaves, mesquite smoke wafting from a neighbor’s barbeque, and even the gamy stench of a hockey locker room. I also have triggers for my ocular, haptic, gustatory, and aural senses. All of us do. And I thought sensory recall was the closest thing I would ever have to a time machine. But on Friday night, Phil and Friends changed that – not once, but twice.
Three paragons of guitar virtuosity – one jazz, one blues, and one Southern rock – traded solos during New Speedway Boogie and, concomitantly, brought me back to The Fox Theatre in St. Louis. Likewise, a bassist nonpareil, a keys cornerstone of post-Dead triumph, and a drummer who has helped redefine percussion in the jamband era marshaled their sonic resources during Eyes of the World and, in so doing, set the DeLorean’s dials to November 9, 2001....

Subject: dark star and dew
i'm not that impressed with this one.if you were there i'm sure it was all good.a quick dark star and dew are always jewels to see live.the other two nights are much better imo.especially the night after this has more energy and tighter playing imo.keep it up phil, we love you!

Subject: oh well
Love Phil, don't love Scofield - everything gets too thin when he is a friend.

Subject: Outstanding!
First, how many got to hear Low Spark this night and the Sunday prior at the Fillmore by Panic (acoustic)? What a treat! Cool smooth by Panic and extended deep Phil version.

First set highlights for me are all through a rocking Loose Lucy.

Second set was amazing from start to finish and wow was it a long one. Unbroken Chain was it for me!

If I had to be critical, it would be that I wish Jackie got a little more into the banjo during the encore, but even seeing it on stage was a treat.

Solid recording!!! Thanks for posting.

PS - Three guitars were a lot but if there was a way to sub John K into this night I would have taken the upgrade.

Keep it coming Phil!!!!!!!!!!!!

Subject: Great Second Set
Our seats for the show were right in front of a massive set of speakers off the Scofield's side and the sound was harsh to say the least. The 1st set was well played but nothing all that special. The 2nd set was nothing short of fantastic. The emotion and integrity of the musicianship is very difficult to find these days along with what Chick Corea and Stanley Clarke are doing, you just don't get music like this very often. The Caution was just emotion from Warren galore and it seems like Scofield just loves playing this music. His jazz licks are a great contrast from Warren's blues and Jackie Green's rock licks. Down loading as I type hope the bass is full and rich sounding. Thank you taper.

Subject: Nice To Have Phil Back Playing With "The Friends"
Someone commented on the PHILZONE Board chat during this show (which we listened to on a live stream thanks to TaperRob) that this band makes Furthur sound like a Las Vegas lounge act. While I won't go as far as to agree with that assessment 100%, I will say that Phil and his Friends make this music come alive in ways that Furthur can't seem to approach! Thanks for posting this show so quickly. Love to tapers and streamers who free the music. Adam Dean
